LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE FINDS COUNTRY COMFORT WITH NASHVILLE STAR JIMMY WAYNE, DEBUTING DEC. 15 AS DARYL AND JOHN CELEBRATE GRAM
Daryl Hall and Wayne recreate their hit country version of “Sara Smile” and a cover of Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood” for 26th and latest edition of groundbreaking web series
NEW YORK, Dec. 7, 2009—Country star Jimmy Wayne’s cover version of Daryl Hall and John Oates’ 1976 hit single, “Sara Smile,” which he recorded with the duo earlier this year, is a country smash, and now serves as the centerpiece for the 26th installment of the acclaimed web series, Live From Daryl’s House, available starting Dec. 15 at www.lfdh.com. The show will be the first since Daryl Hall and John Oates received their first Grammy nomination in 25 years with a nod in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for “Sara Smile,” from their Live at the Troubadour album on Shout! Factory.
“My experience playing with Daryl on Live From Daryl’s House will go down in my journal as one of my all-time favorite performances, right up there with the Grand Ole Opry, Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks,” said the North Carolina-born singer-songwriter.
Wayne released his self-titled debut in 2003 on DreamWorks Nashville, which went Top 10 country and cracked the Top 100 pop, followed by 2008’s Do You Believe Me Now on the Valory Music Group label, where it peaked at #4 Country and #27 on the Pop chart. His latest album, Sara Smile, hit retail last month, with the title track his seventh Top 40 country single, as well as Daryl Hall and John Oates’ first-ever Top 40 country hit.
Featured in Wayne and Daryl’s seven-song set are versions of “Sara Smile” and “Someone Like You,” a track from Hall’s 1986 solo album, Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine, along with a cover of Eddie Floyd’s classic “Knock on Wood.” There are also four Wayne originals, including his #1 Country hit, “Do You Believe Me Now,” “Kerosene Kid,” “I’ll Never Leave You” and “I Didn’t Come Here to Lose.”
Past episodes of Live from Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett and the Bacon Brothers, along with newcomers such as Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind-up Records’ Chicago rockers Company of Thieves, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, Charlottesville, VA’s rising Parachute, Chicago rock band Plain White T’s and highly touted tunesmith Diane Birch.
Live from Daryl’s House started with Daryl’s “light-bulb moment” idea of “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has subsequently been praised by such varied media outlets as Rolling Stone, Spin, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo and the influential Lefsetz Letter.

FALL OUT BOY’S PATRICK STUMP AND DARYL HALL GET THEIR GROOVE ON LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE NOV. 15
The two pair up for 25th installment of groundbreaking web series
NEW YORK, Nov. 9, 2009—Fall Out Boy vocalist Patrick Stump writes most of the music for his platinum-plus Chicago rock band, but he’s also a closet R&B/soul fan who has produced tracks for fellow Windy City rapper Lupe Fiasco, and is a longtime fan of Daryl Hall’s music, which makes him the perfect guest for the 25th and latest installment of Live From Daryl’s House, available starting Nov. 15 at www.lfdh.com.
“As a musician, I can’t fathom a show more fun to play than Live From Daryl’s House,” says Stump about his experience playing with Daryl and his band, including T-Bone Wolk, on the web series.
“Patrick Stump is one soulful vocalist,” says Daryl admiringly. “I was really impressed with his grasp of R&B and it turned out we shared a love for a great deal of the same music.”
As a producer, Stump has worked with such bands as Gym Class Heroes, whose vocalist Travis McCoy is also an unabashed Daryl Hall fan and a participant in a previous Live From Daryl’s House. Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman calls him “a musical genius, a mad scientist,” while noted producer/performer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds says, “Patrick is one of the hottest dudes I’ve seen in a long time… He’s got a great voice and a tremendous amount of talent.” Fall Out Boy’s fifth album, Folie a Deux, was released last December, producing the hit singles, “I Don’t Care” and “America’s Suitehearts.”
Stump puts that great voice straight to work, joining Daryl in a seven-song set highlighted by singles “Out of Touch” and “Guessing Games,” the latter from the H2O album. Among the Fall Out Boy songs Daryl and Patrick perform are versions of “I Don’t Care,” “What a Catch, Donny” and “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” along with a cover of Jimmy Ruffin’s soul classic, “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted.”
Past episodes of Live from Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Nick Lowe, K.T. 3. Daryl Hall and John Oates at Nokia Theater Live, L.A.: It’s like Daryl himself explained after performing “Family Man,” chuckling to the Cougar-heavy crowd: “What was once irony is now reality.” Or, a group that used to be a guilty pleasure is finally getting its just due, proving the duo are much more than their record-shattering streak of hits in the early ’80s for RCA when they ruled the pop zeitgeist, and certainly made up the bulk of the set list for this return to L.A. after their recent Troubadour show. “Maneater,” which opened things, with Daryl and John strumming acoustic guitars on stools, before long-time sax player Charles DeChant spiked things with a solo, then joined by Oates on electric, was part of that, as was “Out of Touch,” “Adult Education,” “Say It Isn’t So,” “One on One,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Kiss on My List,” “Private Eyes” and “You Make My Dreams,” currently the centerpiece dance sequence in the cult film smash, (500) Days of Summer. With a comprehensive four-CD, 80-track set on Sony Legacy coming Oct. 6, which covers their years on Atlantic and Arista, the duo dedicated the middle of the set to some of their deep tracks, and not just the big hits like “She’s Gone,” “Sara Smile” and “Rich Girl,” but a pair of Abandoned Luncheonette selections in “When the Morning Comes,” with a bleating synthesized horn and DeChant’s piercing soprano sax, and “Las Vegas Turnaround,” incorporating a sample from Hugh Masekela’s “Grazing in the Grass." The even-more obscure “It’s Uncanny,” a single from their 1977 best-of Atlantic compilation, No Goodbyes, truly captures the pair’s roots in Philly R&B. With a band that includes lifers like T-Bone Wolk wrenching electric sounds out of his acoustic guitar, Daryl and John seem energized by the renewed interest in a generation that grew up with their music and is without prejudice about their commercial success. Hopefully, this late-career surge will translate into a renewed consideration for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If fellow blue-eyes soulsters like Young Rascals and Blondie can be voted in, H&O more than deserve the honor, also.

The Stories Behind the Songs
A member of the American Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, John Oates’ passion for song writing was the inspiration for his new music series : “ THE STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS”, presented by the Wheeler Opera House and Jazz Aspen.
The idea for the show was born when John was invited to do a seminar at the legendary Berklee College of Music in Boston. That experience led to the development of his solo concert performances that have garnered rave reviews and become a “can’t miss show” for fans around the world.
He explains, “I realized that although people were very familiar with many of the songs that I have written over the years ...they had no idea about who or what was the inspiration behind them. In addition, people always seem fascinated and curious about the songwriter’s creative process.”
Taking a page from the classic “Nashville” style songwriters circle; a format in which the writers participate in sharing the stage and taking turns performing their material “ in the round”; John had the idea to host and produce this style show in his home town of Aspen Colorado. He chose the acoustically pristine and beautiful Historic Wheeler Opera House as the perfect venue for the series.
This intimate, insightful and very humorous show gives the audience a glimpse into the art and craft of the song writing process in its purest form. John explains, “Songwriters by nature are an interesting, engaging and quirky group of creative people...they absorb, refract and reflect the world, then filter it though their own emotional experiences and articulate it in the form of a song. ”
The Stories Behind the Songs
Without a band onstage and with a minimalist production, both the performers and the audience can focus on the essential elements of the song itself. The intimate, acoustic setting allows the audience to become part of the show.
John says, “ I enjoy when I can see peoples faces, their reaction gives us cues as to what they like or want to hear...in between songs we talk to each other, they talk to us...we dissolve the barrier between the listener and the stage and give them a glimpse into the world of the songwriter”.
The series kicked off during the winter of 2008 with three shows. John invited some of his favorite writers to perform along side him for the initial season. The first show, headlined by the Grammy nominated, ethereal voiced Patty Griffin and supported by roots rocker Scott Miller was a smash success. This was followed by a second show featuring another Grammy nominated artist, the effervescent Tift Merritt with fan favorite, Scotty Emerick. The final show introduced the latest country music superstar, Jimmy Wayne along with song writing legend Bob Regan.
“The Stories Behind the Songs “ will continue next winter and expand into a five part series at the Wheeler Opera House. A concert tour is being planned for this fall as well.
